Sustainability Matters
A sustainable and ethical approach has been at the core of everything we do since we welcomed our first guests in 2008
Being a sustainable business has been central to Staying Cool since we welcomed our first guests in 2008. Our focus on renewable energy sources, chemical-free cleaning, Living Wage employment and partnering with some of Brum’s best indie suppliers and festivals means as much to us as it does our guests.
We’re aware of the hospitality industry’s environmental impact and do everything we can to minimise this, encouraging our guests to do the same. We’re proud recipients of a Green Tourism Gold Award for our work that goes into this.
Below you’ll find our range of blogs that outline more about Staying Cool’s eco-friendly philosophy and the small things we can do on our constantly-improving sustainability journey.

Cooking Cool
Not going out? Take advantage of your fully equipped Poggenpohl kitchen and cook up one of our bespoke Cooking Cool recipes, curated by local chef Alex Claridge.
We achieved Green Tourism Gold through various schemes such as constantly monitoring energy usage, supporting local charities with their wonderful work and working with Birmingham independents for our coffee and treats.
We switched from national cereal brands with plastic wrappers to cereals sourced in the Midlands in biodegradable packaging. Milk for guests is provided in glass, rather than plastic bottles. The same environmentally-friendly attention to detail goes into Staying Cool apartment cleaning products and guest toiletries, made with hand-blended aromatherapy oils and free of anything nasty. We’ve always chosen large bottles over small bottles as they are more eco-friendly.
And we do all this in Staying Cool’s inimitable style. Our smart sofas are built from wood from a sustainable source by Naughtone, an environmentally-friendly British company, and we mix mid-century furniture with specially commissioned pieces. We salvage items and restore them to their former glory.
And we constantly look at our more functional but no less important furnishings – the radiators – to ensure they’re the most energy efficient design, replacing or upgrading them when necessary to ensure your time at Staying Cool isn’t just cosy, it’s considerate, too.
“Stylish, well thought out, love strong commitment to sustainability – like the new coffee machines with no pods!”
“Clean, modern, super helpful staff, everything you need in the apartment, plus some locally-produced snack treats thrown in”
“It’s all about the little touches here – I particularly liked the ‘squeezing fresh’ note in the fruit bowl explaining that the fresh fruit was in the fridge awaiting juicing – a fab idea!”
“A lot of thought has gone into your experience and it shows”
