Apartment Guide

Balconies

Our Roadster Penthouses have large balconies. If it’s a little windy please take care when stepping outside as it can be blustery.

If it has been raining please be careful as outside surfaces might be slippery.

We remove outdoor furniture in October and put it back as soon as the weather improves in the spring.

Bedding

We like to be green, and we used to ask you to put any clean, unwanted pillows and towels in your wardrobe to avoid any unnecessary laundering. Contact us if you need any clean bedding or additional towels.

Staying a week or longer? We replace all of your linen every 7 days. We will liaise with you to arrange.

Building access

The building entrance to our Rotunda aparthotel is electronically controlled. When you first arrive, press 123 on the number panel for reception and they’ll buzz you in.

Once you have your key, you’ll be able to gain access by pressing your key fob on the black square on the bottom right of the entry panel situated the right of the doors.

Concierge

Reception is staffed 24/7 – by our team from 08.30 to 22.00 and by Building Security from 22.00 to 08.30.

Call us on +441212851250 if you need anything or have any questions. We’re very happy to help with restaurant bookings or advice on what to see and do during your stay if you’re stuck for ideas. We have also prepared a useful Dining Out guide that you may want to take a look through.

If you call us between 22.00 and 08.30 you will get through to our night service team. We’ll call you back at 08.30 (or at a time to suit you) unless it is urgent of course, when Security will help you.

Cleaning

Don’t worry about making beds, doing the washing up or tidying up before you check out. That’s our job!

Contact us if you need anything cleaning.

Extractor Fan (Kitchen)

Controls for the extractor fan are above the kitchen hob, to the right of the extractor unit.

Select either setting 1 (normal) or 2 (high) and press P.

The switch for the extractor lights is next to the fan controls.

First Aid

There is a first aid box for minor injuries in the cupboard above the hob in every apartment.

Fire Evacuation

Every apartment is fitted with smoke detectors. They can be sensitive and there is no need to evacuate if you have just burnt your breakfast toast. However please leave the building if the fire alarm in the common area outside your apartment or the general building alarm sounds at any time.

In the event of evacuation, please leave the building immediately using the emergency exit listed on the back of your apartment door.

Foreign Consulates

You’ll find a list of the foreign consulates in Birmingham along with contact details and addresses via the Embassy Pages website.

Gym

The nearest gym is conveniently called The Gym and is opposite Rotunda, about 150m along High Street on the left, above Barclays Bank. There is no membership fee and it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

You will need to pre-book your session via The Gym Group’s membership page or ask us to do it for you.

Staying longer? Monthly subscriptions are available from around £15.

Heating

Apartment radiators are turned off prior to arrival in summer and are turned back on again when the first cold spell hits.

If you want to turn your radiator on all you need to do is:

  1. Ensure it is turned on at the wall (N.B: in our Mini apartments this switch is within the bookshelf behind the sofa).
  2. Wait until the display panel loads and you can see the set temperature.
  3. Adjust to the desired temperature using the up and down arrow buttons next to the display.
  4. If nothing happens, press the up arrow until the heating indicator symbol appears on the bottom of the display.
  5. Soon you will be toasty.

Hot Water

There is a good supply of hot water to the apartment – certainly enough to have a couple of showers in the Minis or a bath in the Clubmans, Maxis and Roadsters. If you run out you can boost your tank at any time. The boiler is in the cupboard above your washing machine. This is in the bedroom in a Mini, the lounge in a Clubman and Penthouse or the hall in a Maxi.

Just push the Charge button next to the clock (a small white box on the wall of the cupboard). It takes around 30 minutes to heat enough for a shower and 45 minutes for a bath.

Littering

Birmingham has a strict (but brilliant) no litter policy so if anyone drops anything on the floor – gum, cigarette ends or any item of rubbish – they will get an on the spot fine of up to £40.

Money Exchange Bureau

Eurochange is your closest foreign currency exchange bureau to Rotunda.

Located on Level 1 of The Bullring, open 8am – 9pm Monday – Saturday, 11am – 5pm Sunday.

Rubbish

We recycle as much as we can. We’d be grateful if you could rinse recyclable packaging out and leave it on the kitchen surface when you check out.

Waste bins are provided in the kitchen and bathroom. If you need to dispose of non-recyclable rubbish during your stay the refuse chute is:

Level 16-19: Outside apartment 07.

Level 20: Behind the lift on the left.

Smoking

All Staying Cool apartments are non-smoking and 99.9% of our guests observe this rule.

For the 0.1% who don’t, we add a £125 cleaning and airing charge to room bills and recharge any damage caused.

Television

If for any reason the TV is off, please turn it on using the POWER button on the black TV remote control.

Your TV has all the Freeview channels.

If you would like to cast – watch your own content eg Netflix, Apple TV, BBC iPlayer, from your own device eg your mobile, tablet or laptop), follow the on-screen instructions.

Toiletries

Our toiletries are made with hand-blended aromatherapy oils and are free of nasty parabens, sulphates and triclosan. We have chosen large bottles over small bottles as they are more environmentally friendly.

We hope you enjoy them. If you would like to take them home with you then let reception know. We will add a charge of £18 per bottle when you check out.

Valuables

Staying Cool cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to any personal items. Both the apartment and the building are safe and secure. However, we recommend that you keep your apartment door locked at all times and always double-check the identity of anyone knocking on your door before opening.

Windows

Please read the instructions on the window before opening them. The windows are very sturdy and provide good soundproofing, but they can be challenging to open and close.

For health and safety reasons we ask that you do not open the windows in windy, wet or stormy weather. Children must be supervised at all times.

Yoga

Myga yoga launched their first flagship store just a stone’s throw away from Rotunda. Their accessories store and coffee shop doubles up as a yoga studio, offering a wide variety of classes from Yoga for Beginners to Balance Board Yoga.

Book classes and shop yoga accessories on the Myga website.

Our team have also made some helpful how-to videos to take you through some of the above.

We hope that you’ve found this apartment guide informative. Please let us know if we have missed anything that you would have found useful.
