Name for forthcoming Manchester apartment hotel revealed
Today, we’ve announced Cotton Yard as the name of our new 41-unit Manchester apartment hotel. Construction has commenced on the Chorlton and Canal Street site in the heart of Manchester’s Gay Village. Cotton Yard will offer a mix of studios and suites over four floors of the existing building. There will also be eight duplex penthouses in a new rooftop extension. The building project will take approximately 18 months. We should see the first guests arrive through the doors in Autumn 2021.
The building was a former cotton finishing yard, which inspired the name. Built in various stages between the late 19th and the early 20th centuries, it’s a stunner of a building. We are really excited to be bringing it back to life after years of neglect. It is a perfect location for a design-led apartment hotel.

The apartment hotel on Chorlton Street, within the Whitworth Street / Princess Street Conservation Area, was once home to Oliver Peyton’s innovative Mash & Air in the 1990s. This was a favourite haunt of our founders, Paul and Tracey.
The conservation area recognises the unique flavour of this area of Manchester. Buildings such as the Cotton Yard grew up between 1850 and 1920 to provide warehousing and office space. Their Victorian and Edwardian architecture reflects the importance of the textile business during these periods in the city. It generated enormous wealth.
